A New Way to Experience East Kauaʻi

The Makaiwa Initiative is creating a better way to move around our island. Through the East Kauaʻi Mobility Hub at Coconut Marketplace, we're connecting our airport, resorts, and community with reliable shuttle service—reducing traffic, preserving our roads, and giving everyone more freedom to explore without a rental car.

Community First

Built by locals, for locals and visitors alike. Every trip supports our vision of a more connected, less congested East Side.

Simple & Reliable

Direct shuttles from Līhuʻe Airport to Coconut Marketplace and Kapaʻa town. No stress, no parking hassles, no rental car needed.

Sustainable Travel

Fewer cars on our roads means cleaner air, safer streets, and a better experience for everyone who calls Kauaʻi home.

Shared Responsibility

When we share rides, we share the burden—and the benefits. Less traffic means more aloha for all.

Multiple Options

Walk the coastal path, rent a bike, or hop on our town shuttle. The Mobility Hub gives you freedom, not just transportation.

Long-Term Vision

This is just the beginning. Together, we're building a transportation system that will serve our community for generations.

How It Works

Before You Arrive: Book your shuttle online. We'll pick you up curbside at Līhuʻe Airport and take you directly to your resort on the East Side.

During Your Stay: Use the Mobility Hub at Coconut Marketplace to explore Kapaʻa town, visit local beaches via the coastal path, or rent a car for day trips—without paying for a week-long rental.

When You Leave: We'll bring you back to the airport from Coconut Marketplace. It's that simple.

About Makaiwa Initiative

Community-Led Mobility for East Kauaʻi

The Makaiwa Initiative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing traffic congestion and improving transportation options on Kauaʻi's East Side. Born from community conversations and rooted in local values, we're creating a better way for residents and visitors to move around our island.

Our Mission

To support community mobility, public access, and sustainable transportation on the east side of Kauaʻi—reducing rental car dependency, easing traffic congestion, and strengthening connections between our communities.

The Problem We're Solving

The Mobility Hub at Coconut Marketplace is the anchor for a smarter transportation system. Located near the airport and surrounded by resorts, it provides:
